You dash up the small islands of land jutting out from the geometrically-sound slope, and suddenly wonder “are there 12 or 13 stairs on this thing”? Instinctively, you go for the next stair, only to find a fat slab of open air. Your foot plunges downward, brutally slamming into the landing below, cramming your ankle into your shin.
It is a momentary setback, stepping through the invisible stair. Yet it’s always not there, ready and unwilling to trip us up in even our mildest of hurries.
