You get out of life what you put in to it. That being said, if you put little effort in how you act and speak every day, please don’t be surprised when you find you’re having a hard time in life. Being shy is a natural thing, but being perpetually shy is not. I’m not talking awkward or anxious or even hyperventilation, I’m talking avoidance of eye contact, mumbling, and fidgeting. These are unattractive characteristics to have. You need to get over whatever it is that’s stopping you from being you in a social situation. And if you do eventually feel comfortable around people, expand that comfort zone! Start with a small group of friends, then a few more, then a few more… C’mon, I actually have faith in you this time. You can do this. Get vocal, get active, and get out there and show someone.
Your Shyness Needs To Die.
And I’ll propose a challenge: If this article is disagreeable to you shy types who like to maintain a private “bubble” of insecurity, LET ME KNOW. Find your voice in the comments. Because not once in my life have I been abused verbally by shy people. Want to know why? They’re SHY.

Some people think shyness is cute. I thought of them when I chose this picture.

Why do you like discriminating people so much? People are born shy. Unless you have the money to send them on a confidence-building course, they will always be shy. You know the saying, ‘A leopard never changes its spots.’
I am not shy. Just to let you know.
If a leopard never changes its spots, then how can you teach an old dog new tricks? or wait, that’s not right…
LMB, if this was true there would never be that fun, flirtatious former-nerd-chick at your high school reunion. Confidence is absolutely something that can be worked on.
Sincerely,
a former drama geek
I, too, am a drama geek. I’m not from America. First things first.
There’s this guy in my last year’s class, when I was P4, who was extremely shy that even when the teacher calls on him he replies softly. Then the teachers put us in a confidence building class, all 20 of us, but did he improve? No.
